Socceroo Robbie Kruse injured after poor tackle from Jordan's Ahmad

Socceroos and Bayer Leverkusen forward Robbie Kruse has been sidelined by a minor ligament strain as a result of the brutal tackle which marred Australia's World Cup qualifying win over Jordan.

Kruse was brought down heavily by Yousef Ahmad during the second half of the 5-1 triumph on Tuesday night, and was initially cleared of injury.

But on his return to Germany, Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt revealed his player had not escaped completely unscathed.

"Robbie has a slight ligament strain," Schmidt...

FFA's failure to fund Matildas training camp all down to poor planning

Matildas training

Newsflash: Australia's top ranked football side can't afford a training camp. Really?

After climbing to fifth in the FIFA Women's World Rankings, there is apparently not enough money in the kitty at the moment to gather the Matildas together for a camp to prepare for the Olympic Games.

Yes, this is the same Matildas side welcomed home with great fanfare from the qualifying tournament in Japan just a fortnight ago, when it seemed everyone wanted a piece of the action.

Australia unveils new identical playing strips for Socceroos, Matildas

Australia have unveiled a new playing kit ahead of their two crucial World Cup qualifying matches this week.

The Socceroos will sport a new all-Gold home jersey versus Tajikistan in Adelaide on March 24 and Jordan in Sydney five days later as they look to secure progression through to the next round of AFC qualifying.

In a first for the country, the Australian women's team, the Matildas, will wear the identical playing kits as their male counterparts -- in a female cut -- at the upcoming Olympic...

Australia's Matildas take another step in the rise of women's football

Matildas celebrate
Australia's win over North Korea on Monday night guaranteed the Matildas a spot in Rio.

"The future of football is feminine." A famous quote, from an infamous man.

It was one of the more lucid utterings of the now disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, in his time at the helm of the World Game, but the 100,000 female players who kick a ball around the parks of Australia are unlikely to have paid it any heed.

Much more inspirational to them is the continuing success of the women's national team.

With visions of the Copacabana just over the horizon, the Matildas will celebrate...

Australia's Matildas qualify for Rio Olympics by beating North Korea

Matildas celebrate
The Matildas will participate in the Olympics for the first time since Athens 2004.

The Australian women's football team qualified for Olympic Games in style with a 2-1 win over old nemesis North Korea in Osaka on Monday, and coach Alen Stajcic says his side are now capable of winning a first-ever medal in Rio.

A fourth win in as many matches in the notoriously tough Asian qualifying region saw the Matildas end a 12-year drought against the side that kept them out of the past two Olympics.

Michelle Heyman and Katrina Gorry scored in each half, either side of a Kim Su Gyong goal...
