Matildas' Samantha Kerr nominated for FIFA Best Women's Player award

Australia and Sky Blue FC forward Samantha Kerr is a FIFA Best Women's Player nominee.

She's been hailed as the world's best female player and now Sam Kerr could have it officially confirmed by FIFA.

The Matildas superstar has been nominated for the Best FIFA Women's Player 2017 award after her stunning season at domestic and international level.

Kerr is one of 10 players in line for the honour, which will be presented at FIFA's football awards ceremony in London on Oct. 23.

Australia began the Tournament of Nations on a high note, beating the United States for the first time ever.

Matildas legend Cheryl Salisbury is set to become the first female recipient of the prestigious Alex Tobin Medal.

It is Professional Footballers Australia's highest honour and will be presented to Salisbury at the union's annual players' awards night in Newcastle next month.

Defender Salisbury played 151 times for Australia between 1994 and 2009 and is a pioneer of women's football.

She started in the Matildas' first World Cup match in 1995 and played at three subsequent editions of the tournament...

Australia won the inaugural Tournament of Nations with their third and most decisive victory of the competition over Brazil.

Lisa De Vanna admits chasing the all-time goal-scoring record for the Matildas has been stressful.

It's played on her mind and even stopped her from scoring.

But now the record is hers, she's looking into the distance and wondering how many more goals there might be.

The 32-year-old striker scored twice in Australia's 6-1 romp over Brazil as the Matildas claimed the Tournament of Nations.

It was enough to draw level and then surpass forward Kate Gill to claim the goalscoring record.
