Del Piero weighing up Sydney stay

Sydney FC star Alessandro Del Piero has revealed he is still considering whether to prolong his spell in the A-League beyond the end of this season.

Del Piero, 38, arrived in the A-League to a fanfare in September but despite being the most high-profile player in the division's history, he has struggled to inspire a Sydney side that currently sits bottom of the table after ten games.

The Juventus legend, who left Turin during the summer after two decades with the club, penned a one-year deal with an option of a second when he moved to Australia.

And at the moment, Del Piero says he has yet to decide whether to extend his stay to 2014.

"We have been talking. We are waiting [for] what it [the club] decide...they wait [for] me," Del Piero said. "Everybody is waiting." We have discussed things. We have a good relationship, but at the moment we have to think day by day."

Sydney chief executive Tony Pignata said he is confident of Del Piero staying, insisting that the Italian's future is now a priority for the club following the appointment of Frank Farina as replacement for axed boss Ian Crook at the end of November.

"We had preliminary discussions a few weeks ago and Ale indicated he was keen to stay," Pignata said. "But the focus, as you would understand, has been on finding a new coach after Ian left and getting the club back on track.

"Now we have appointed Frank Farina (as coach). It will be a matter for the board to sit down and sort out something in regards to Al in the next few weeks."
