Switzerland coach Vladamir Petkovic said his side could still improve after they reached the Euro 2016 knockout stage with a 0-0 draw against hosts France.
The point ensured Switzerland finished second in Group A, with France going through as winners.
It was the first time Switzerland had got through the group stage at a European Championship, and Petkovic told the official UEFA website: "We showed that we want to play football and we are able to keep up with strong opponents.
"Maybe something is still missing -- but we now have time to recover and improve those things."
Goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who made fine saves to deny Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann, added: "We're very happy. It's great for Switzerland to be in the last 16 of a tournament like this.
"We deserved to get through this group. Now we have a week to rest, a bit of an easier week, and we'll see who we play next."
Midfielder Granit Xhaka said: "At last we were able to show one of the great teams that we can play well against them.
"We tackled really well and covered an incredible amount of ground for each other. Maybe up front we should have been a bit more clinical, but our goal was to get a point, maybe three, and get to the last sixteen -- and we've made it."
