Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic relaxed over failure to take chances

Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic said he is not concerned by his team's struggles in front of goal after the 1-1 draw with Romania in Paris.

Switzerland, who beat Albania 1-0 in their Euro 2016 opener, took a point in their second Group B match after Admir Mehmedi's fine strike on 57 minutes cancelled out Bogdan Stancu's first-half penalty.

Switzerland forward Haris Seferovic once more blew his big moment, missing several chances to finish off Albania on Saturday.

The big Swiss failed with two early shots after teammates picked out his clever runs at the heart of Romania's defence.

The clamour back home to start with Breel Embolo, who replaced Seferovic in the 63rd minute, can only grow as they prepare to face hosts France in their final group match.

"We created lots of chances but only managed to score one, unfortunately," Petkovic said after the match. "I'm not concerned about the lack of goals. You have to get into those positions first.

"We'll now start looking forward to the France game and make sure we're as prepared as we can be for that."

He added: "After the first game I don't think this criticism was justified. I hope you'll be satisfied with our performance because I am."

New Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, who got his second straight man of the match award, said the Swiss would need to become more clinical when presented with chances.

"It's not that we can't create them," he said. "We just don't finish them."

Switzerland, who have never advanced from their group at a European Championship, are guaranteed a top-three finish in Group A.

Mehmedi said: "Of course we're a little disappointed that we only drew 1-1. We created a lot of chances and perhaps should have scored one or two more, but we go into the France game full of confidence.

"If we qualify for the next round we might play Germany, which should be fairly straightforward for us."
