Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Sweden's Olympic squad but may not play

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been included in Sweden's provisional 35-man squad to play at the Rio Olympics this summer, although coach Hakan Ericson has said nothing is certain.

Ibrahimovic, 34, is currently captaining his country at Euro 2016 and could potentially delay his much anticipated arrival at Manchester United if he does go on to play in the August competition.

Sweden qualified for the Olympic tournament -- which is scheduled to take place between Aug. 3-20 -- after reaching the final of the Under-21 European Championship last summer. They will face Colombia, Nigeria and Japan in the group stages.

Sweden's Olympic coach Ericson is expected to name his final 22-man squad by mid-July with a maximum of three players born earlier than Jan. 1, 1993, allowed to participate.

Ericson later said he is still hopeful that Ibrahimovic will play in the Olympics but acknowledged that it may depend on how well Sweden do at Euro 2016 and which club he ends up playing for next season.

"We can't feel too positive," Ericson told Swedish newspaper Expressen. "It's known that those in the Euros can't double up. I've had dialogue with Zlatan, but we don't really know what is happening.

"He's willing to wait and see during the Euros. Even the smallest window I want to keep open. It would be fantastic to have him in the squad. I don't think the chances are that big."

He added: "You don't convince Zlatan. He has an inner drive. He is willing to wait until after the Euros. He has to make a decision about his future career."

Ericson was also asked whether he would prefer that Ibrahimovic joined a Major League Soccer team since United might not want to release him for the Olympics.

He replied: "Looking at it egotistically I think the chance is greater there [in the MLS], but if Zlatan wants to play then he wants to play."
