Zlatan Ibrahimovic reveals desire to play in 2016 Olympics with Sweden

Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said he is hopeful that he can represent his country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Ibrahimovic, 33, missed out on the World Cup after Sweden were pipped to a place in Brazil by Portugal, who beat them in the playoffs.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain striker could yet play in Brazil should Sweden's under-21 side reach the semifinals of next summer's European Under-21 Championship.

That would earn the Sweden under-23 team a place in the Olympics' football tournament and, with three overage players allowed in the squad, Ibrahimovic has his sights set on claiming one of those spots.

"If the chance presents itself, I could represent Sweden at the 2016 Olympics," he told Aftonbladet. "I have never played that competition as yet. I don't know if I could be available for the team -- but if I am, it's 'yes.'"

Ibrahimovic, who made his international debut in 2001, has won 100 caps for Sweden.
