Ryan Giggs a Swansea target if Francesco Guidolin leaves - sources

Former Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs has emerged as Swansea City's top target should they part company with boss Francesco Guidolin, sources close to the Welsh club have told ESPN FC.

Guidolin's position at Swansea has come under scrutiny after an indifferent start to the new Premier League season.

Swansea have won one of their opening five Premier League games and exited the EFL Cup on Wednesday after a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City.

The Italian's future has also been questioned because of reported player unrest following outbursts of dissent from Neil Taylor and Ki Sung-Yueng after being substituted in recent games

Swansea face a tough run of fixtures as they take on leaders Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, before hosting Liverpool on Oct. 1 then Arsenal away after the international break on Oct. 15.

Guidolin took over at Swansea from Garry Monk in January on an interim basis and guided the club to safety before being handed the job permanently in the summer.

Swansea are now weighing up moves for possible replacements for Guidolin and Wales legend Giggs figures at the top of the wanted list.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is a big admirer of Giggs and considered a move for the former Manchester United star following the sacking of Monk last season.

Giggs is currently out of work after ending his long association with United earlier this summer following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager.

After finishing his playing career, Giggs served as assistant to David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal at United in the last three years, but he saw his No.2 role taken up by Rui Faria after Mourinho's appointment.

The 42-year-old turned down the chance to stay on at Old Trafford in a different role with Giggs keen to become a manager in his own right.
