Swansea boss Garry Monk receives backing from captain Ashley Williams

Swansea captain Ashley Williams has given his backing to Garry Monk, amid reports that the manager's position is being considered by the club.

According to BBC Sport, senior board members at the Liberty Stadium are worried about the Swans' run of just one win in nine Premier League matches, leaving them 14th in the table.

Williams refused to comment on the speculation during the international break, but following Saturday's 2-2 draw against Bournemouth the Wales captain has voiced his support for his boss.

"This is me coming out and backing the manager officially because I don't think we've done that enough," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "We back him, of course we back him. I thought about it in the week that we haven't really come out enough and said that we back him.

"I don't think we need to for him, because he knows that we back him. We speak to him a lot and he's working as hard as we are, or harder because he understands the situation we're in.

"We're trying to do it for him as well as ourselves. We see how hard he works and see he's coming in for a lot of stick at the minute."

Monk will be hoping to be given the chance to turn his side's fortunes around, although Swansea's next three games see them face Liverpool, league leaders Leicester and Manchester City.

BBC Sport also claims that Swans assistant manager Pep Clotet could leave the club as he is being considered to take over at Brentford. If appointed, Clotet could take first-team coach James Beattie with him to Griffin Park.

Monk, who took charge of Swansea in February 2014 following Michael Laudrup's departure, is reported to have been frustrated by his assistant's apparent discussions with Brentford.
