Monk has described Jefferson Montero as the best one-on-one attacker in the Premier League after the Ecuadorian winger's dazzling display at Chelsea.
Montero tormented Chelsea's usually reliable defender Branislav Ivanovic in a performance similar to the one he produced last season when he destroyed Arsenal's young England full-back Calum Chambers.
"Jeff is probably the best in the league in that situation," Monk said.
"I haven't seen anyone one-v-one create so many opportunities by beating his man -- his percentage of winning those duels is probably the highest in the league.
"But you need players like that to be protected as teams will identify that and use physical elements to try to disrupt them.
"Hopefully the refs recognise that and deal with it."
