Jordi Amat aiming to continue recovery, to join preseason tour

Swansea defender Jordi Amat aims to step up his recovery from a broken metatarsal by rejoining the first-team squad next week.

Amat suffered the injury in the closing weeks of last season after fighting his way back into first-team contention after recovering from knee ligament damage.

The 23-year-old, who can fill either left-back or centre-back positions, has joined Swansea's preseason tour of Germany but he continues to train on his own with the club's medical staff at present.

"I feel so good, there is no pain and I am training so hard,'' Amat told Swans TV.

"The scan was very good and I hope next week I can train with the group.

"I am so looking forward to being with my teammates and approaching the days when I will be in the squad.''

Amat, who joined from Espanyol for £2.5million two summers ago, signed a new one-year contract extension in March to keep him at Swansea until June 2018.

The Spaniard has made over 40 appearances for the Premier League club and remains confident of making his mark at Swansea despite defensive competition from Wales captain Ashley Williams, Argentina international Federico Fernandez, Kyle Bartley and summer signing Franck Tabanou.

"This is my third season here and I just want to play a lot of games and help the team,'' Amat said.

"This year we've got a stronger team and I am looking forward to starting the league.

"We had an incredible season last year but we will try to push for more and improve.

"I don't feel anything in my foot so that's very important, now I am trying to be stronger and come back fitter.''
