Preseason tournament in Dallas cancelled

Six teams have been forced to alter their preseason plans after the Texas tournament they were set to compete in was cancelled.

Premier League club Swanswa were due to feature in a six-team tournament in Dallas from July 11-19 alongside Mexico's Chivas Guadalajara and Pachuca, Spain's Malaga, France's Lyon and Morocco's Raja Casablanca.

Swansea held a training camp in Chicago last summer and played friendlies against Chivas and Minnesota United, but manager Garry Monk said earlier this month that the preseason tournament in Dallas marked a step up for the Welsh club, both on the pitch and commercially off it as well.

"You're getting a chance to grow the brand a little bit better,'' Monk said of the Texas tournament. "It's another step forward and America's a great market.

"If we can get it right it would be good for everyone, not only the players and staff of the club but also the fans."

A statement on the official Swansea website said the club would now turn their attentions to new preseason preparations ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

"We will announce the new plans as soon as they are confirmed,'' said the statement. "We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused our supporters."
