Alan Pardew keen to bring Bafetimbi Gomis to Crystal Palace

New Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has identified Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis as one of his chief targets in the January transfer window, sources have told ESPN FC.

Pardew was eyeing up a deal to bring Gomis to Newcastle before his four-year stint as Magpies boss came to an end, with the 29-year-old now on his radar after his move to Palace.

The striker was a transfer target for Pardew last summer, but he lost out in the race to secure his services on a free transfer and now hopes to prize him away from Swansea after a tricky start to his career in South Wales that has seen him score just one Premier League goal this season.

However, Wilfried Bony's departure to the African Nations Cup means Swansea are unlikely to be willing sellers, with their manager Garry Monk suggesting in his latest media briefing that he is keen to hang on to the player.

"Bafe has been waiting for his chance to stake his claim," Monk told a news conference after Swansea's 6-2 FA Cup win over Tranmere. "It's been difficult, but unfortunately for him Bony has been in good form in the first half of the season.

"I've tried to give him game-time but Bony's been scoring goals. I'm sure it's been in Bafe's mind that this chance has been coming up and I think you will see a real, real player in this period.

"If Bafe's in good form when Bony comes back then he will keep the shirt. It's a good period for him to really stamp his authority on the team and I've proved it already this season that I'm consistent with players. The players that have come in and put on good performances have stayed in the team and warranted the shirt."

Meanwhile, striker Kevin Doyle has confirmed that he expects to return to Wolves later this month after an unsuccessful loan spell at Crystal Palace was interrupted by injuries and a lack of first team chances.
