Vito Mannone signs new two-year deal with Sunderland

Goalkeeper Vito Mannone has agreed a new two-year contract to stay with Sunderland.

The 28-year-old is now tied to the Premier League club until 2018.

Mannone took over as first-choice keeper at Sunderland from Costel Pantilimon on Boxing Day last season and kept four clean sheets in 19 games.

The Italian joined the Black Cats from Arsenal in 2013 and helped them reach the League Cup final in 2014.

Sunderland also announced on Monday that defender Santiago Vergini had left the club to join Argentina giants Boca Juniors in a permanent move for an undisclosed fee.

Vergini made 51 appearances for the Black Cats, though he spent last season on loan at Getafe.
