Spurs yet to decide on Rose future

Danny Rose’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain after Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that a decision still needs to be made on where the defender will be playing his football next season.

Rose, 22, enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan at Sunderland after joining the club from Spurs last summer.

Ending his spell on Wearside with a 1-1 draw against Southampton last week, the left-back was given a standing ovation by Black Cats fans who chanted his name for nearly five minutes.

With Sunderland keen to push through a deal for the England Under-21 international, Spurs boss Villas-Boas had initially said in December that a permanent deal was “impossible”.

Yet despite softening his stance after the two sides met on Sunday, the Portuguese still remained coy on Rose's future.

“At the moment, Danny goes to the Under-21 Championship with England [in June] and will then return to our squad,” Villas-Boas told the Sunderland Echo.

“He has had a great season in Sunderland. We are aware of it. He’s a player we have to consider. There are decisions to be made at this club in the summer. We have to look to build, but we are also aware that we have to hold on to good players to improve as a club.”

Rose is believed to be open to a move to Sunderland after an enjoyable season at the Stadium of Light.

Black Cats manager Paolo Di Canio has spoken highly of the player since arriving at the club in March, although he has remained quiet on the subject of a permanent transfer.
