Sunderland swoop for Swans' Graham

Sunderland have agreed a fee with Swansea for striker Danny Graham, according to reports.

Danny Graham celebrates his late equaliser for Swansea
Danny Graham appears set to move

Graham, 27, joined the Swans from Watford in 2011 for fee of £3.5million and excelled in his debut season. However he has struggled to secure a regular starting place under new manager Michael Laudrup following the arrival of Spanish star Michu.

The  potential arrival of Graham has seen a mixed reception on Wearside, with the Gateshead-born striker booed onto the pitch for during Swansea’s goalless draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.

Speaking after the game, defender Ashley Williams reiterated his hope that Graham will choose to remain with the Swans in favour of a return to his native north east.

"I said that last week in the press, we want him to stay, he’s a good player and a bonus for us,” Williams said. “He’s great around the place and we want him to stay but obviously he’s got to go and do what he feels right for him and his family and his career."

Graham will now travel to Wearside to discuss personal terms with the Black Cats and undergo a medical ahead of his deadline day move. Manager Martin O’Neill is keen to add striking reinforcements to his side after confirming on Tuesday the club had submitted a number of bids for potential targets.

"Naturally, I’m hopeful of getting someone in, but until a player has been signed and sealed I don’t think you can really talk about it," O’Neill said.

"We’ve made some bids for players, we didn’t make them overnight we made them some time ago. Of course it is the prerogative of the team we put these bids in to either accept or not accept as the case may be. There may be a host of signings in the next 48 hours but there’s every possibility. I’m hopeful that we might be able to do something."
