Galaxy hope to scupper Becks PSG deal

Los Angeles Galaxy have made a last-ditch bid to persuade David Beckham to remain in the USA, despite claims that the midfielder has agreed to sign for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint Germain.

• Beckham signs on with PSG - report

Reports in the French media claim that the PSG deal is already done, with Le Parisien stating Beckham has agreed to a £670,000-per-month contract and L'Equipe suggesting the former England captain will have a 'rock star' unveiling in front of the Hotel de Ville.

But the former England captain's management team have told ESPNsoccernet that is not the case, with a spokesman saying: "All we can do is reaffirm that no decision has been taken as yet. It might not be long before a decision is reached, but that decision is purely down to David. The fact is that he has yet to decide."

Beckham's five-year contract with LA Galaxy ends on December 31, but the Major League Soccer side have not given up hope of keeping hold of the 36-year-old star and new contract terms have been tabled by club officials.

Sources close to Beckham insist that the midfielder's decision will be a purely footballing one, as he believes his family will be just as happy in Paris - having looked at the schools and the location - as in LA.

Beckham's prime focus at the moment is his desire to lead Team GB at the 2012 Olympics, and while moving back to Europe may enhance that ambition, the football landscape in LA has improved with Galaxy's title success this season and the addition of players such as Robbie Keane.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has yet to make his final decision and is giving both offers serious consideration.

"David knows [PSG director of football] Leonardo having worked with him at Milan, but he's just had a great season at LA, and with Robbie and Landon there the quality has improved," a source told ESPNsoccernet. "The new [MLS] season starts in March with plenty of time to be in top shape for the Olympics, so it's a big decision, but one that has yet to be taken."
