Madrid bounce back

A Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick helped Real Madrid to a 6-2 victory at Sevilla on an eventful night as both sides were reduced to ten men.

Ronaldo scored twice and Jose Maria Callejon was credited with the second as Real responded to last weekend's 3-1 Clasico loss at home to Barcelona by taking a 3-0 first-half lead, though Pepe was sent off shortly before the break.

The impressive Angel Di Maria added the fourth and, after Jesus Navas pulled a goal back but Sevilla's Manu Del Moral followed Pepe in seeing red, Ronaldo netted his 111th goal in 112 appearances for the club from a penalty. Hamit Altintop and Alvaro Negredo then traded late goals.

Getafe came from behind to win away from home for the first time this season, as they triumphed 2-1 at Mallorca.

The visitors did not get off to the best start as Miguel Angel Moya flapped at Michael Pereria's corner and Mallorca captain Ivan Ramis headed into the empty net.

However, Abdel Barrada's deflected effort brought Getafe level on 28 minutes before the Moroccan scored again after a wonderful run and pass from Miku left him with the simplest of tasks in front of an unguarded net.

Pedro Rios fired a long-range effort against the post for Getafe early in the second period but despite Mallorca's possession, they offered little in front of goal and Getafe comfortably held on to record back-to-back wins for the first time this term.

Sergio Garcia scored the winner seven minutes from time as Espanyol took the points in a thoroughly entertaining 2-1 victory over Sporting Gijon at El Molinon.

The visitors were in front within the first two minutes as a lightning-quick counter-attack sent Thievy Bifouma clear and his shot was too good for Juan Pablo in the Sporting goal.

Espanyol were well in control of the game but failed to build on their lead and were punished as Diego Barral flicked in a corner at the near post to bring Sporting level on the hour mark.

Thereafter it was end to end with both teams wasting a host of good chances to take the lead until Garcia latched onto Alvaro Vasquez's flick on and thundered a volley past Pablo to leave Sporting in the relegation zone.

Athletic Bilbao had Javi Martinez sent off after 21 minutes but still managed a 2-1 victory over the Primera Division's bottom club, Real Zaragoza, after they also went down to ten men.

Bilbao took an early lead when Market Susaeta netted seven minutes in but lost Martinez with almost 70 minutes still to play when he conceded a penalty for a foul on Angel Lafita.

Leonardo Ponzio equalised from the spot but Bilbao took the points when Gaizka Toquero scored in the 87th minute, by which time Maurizio Lanzaro had picked up two yellow cards.
