Rodriguez targets Porto exit

FC Porto winger Cristian Rodriguez says he is interested in a move away from Portugal during the January transfer window.

Rodriguez has struggled for playing time this season after a spat with manager Vitor Pereira earlier this year. The Uruguayan is now understood to be looking for a new deal in Europe, while Penarol in his homeland are also thought to be in the running for his signature.

"It is true that there have been some interesting offers from Europe," Rodriguez told El Pais. "Russia, Turkey, Greece and Germany are being reported as possible destinations, but I would prefer Italy, Spain or England.

"We will see what happens. The fact that I now have a EU passport can open many doors. I would never reject a return to Penarol."

The former Paris Saint-Germain man also played down the rift between he and Pereira, citing a shoulder injury as the reason behind his absence from training in the days after their public altercation.

"I had an argument with the coach, just like every player has with a team-mate, about a particular thing in a match," he said.

"It was not a serious argument. After that, I had a shoulder problem and I did recovery work for two days, that is why the reporters did not see me in training."
