Blues yet to bid for Vargas

Universidad de Chile star Eduardo Vargas has been heavily linked with a January move to Chelsea but the Premier league club are yet to make a formal bid, according to the player's agent.

• Lampard: I'm going nowhere
• Mystery over 'bust up'

Vargas has been likened to Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez and a number of European clubs, including Arsenal, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli are tracking the Chile international.

Chelsea, who have agreed terms for Nicolas Anelka to join Shanghai Shenhua when the transfer window opens, are believed to be at the head of the queue to sign the 22-year-old as manager Andre Villas-Boas looks to freshen up his aging squad.

Vargas is expected to leave the Chilean Primera Division make his way to Europe during the winter transfer window but as yet there have been no official bids lodged with his club.

"He's definitely a player that is attracting a lot of interest," agent Mark Griffiths told Calcio Mercato.

"Has there been an official offer from Chelsea? Their chief scout in South America is Chilean, Jorge Alvial, so it is expected that the best players from his country will be linked with the Blues.

"However, we have not received an official offer from London. Maybe they will bid in the future, but to date there is nothing. That is the same for all the European teams.

"A valuation of €10 million I think it could be higher than that, maybe around €12 million-€14 million.

"Vargas as the next Sanchez? Comparisons have been made, but I think in some ways he is even better than the Barcelona player because he scores more goals."
