Catania hope to keep Lopez

Catania hope to prevent Argentinian striker Maxi Lopez from leaving the club in January.

Reports in Italy claim Lopez is Milan's top target should the Rossoneri fail to sign Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez in the winter transfer market. Milan are looking to reinforce their attacking line with Antonio Cassano ruled out indefinitely after undergoing a heart procedure last month.

"That's Milan's problem,'' said Catania president Antonino Pulvirenti to Gazzetta dello Sport. "Our attacking line is complete with (Maxi) Lopez, (Gonzalo) Bergessio and (David) Suazo.

"Of course, for a player to resist an offer from Milan is almost impossible and we know that. If the Rossoneri club should persist in their interest to acquire the player, it will be the player to have the final say.''

Lopez, 27, joined Catania last year from FC Moscow and is under contract with the Sicilian outfit until January 2014. The South American has scored two goals in 11 league appearances for 10th-place Catania this season.
