Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury against Basel on Wednesday night.
Vidic was stretchered off after landing awkwardly in a challenge with goalscorer Marco Streller as United lost 2-1 at St Jakob-Park and failed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The Red Devils now face a nervous wait to learn the extent of the problem, with United skipper Vidic eventually leaving the stadium on crutches.
"It looked a bad one at the time," manager Sir Alex Ferguson told ITV. "But he doesn't fell so much pain at the moment.
"Until we get the scan we don't know. I think it maybe medial ligament. Hopefully that's the worst it is."
