Pardew: Chelsea will fear us

Alan Pardew has thrown down a fresh challenge to under-pressure Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, claiming his players will be fearing taking on Newcastle at St James' Park.

Newcastle have lost just one Premier League game this season, to leaders Manchester City, while Chelsea are struggling for form and lost to Liverpool for the second time this month on Tuesday.

Chelsea will head to Newcastle trailing the Magpies in the Premier League table and Pardew is determined to pile more pressure on his opposite number on Saturday.

"We have one of the big clubs coming to us and they will be fearing coming to us in front of 52,000 Geordies," Pardew said. "We've set ourselves up for Chelsea."

Newcastle claimed a fantastic point at Manchester United despite playing for a portion of the game with 10 men and Pardew's side's defensive steel has caught the eye.

Pardew said: "It's not easy to go to Man United and win. Getting a point is magnificent. The attitude we had towards the game was positive and we tried to go there and win.

"It was only when we went down to 10 men that we felt under pressure. I don't think we allowed them to create any pressure in the first half.

"We were fabulous. We were kicking toward the Stretford End and tried to unsettle them by giving them problems - and we did. I thought we were terrific."
