Gialloblu defiant ahead of coppa clash

Parma go into their Coppa Italia clash with Verona on Tuesday in confident mood despite slipping up at struggling Novara over the weekend.

The Gialloblu are 11th in Serie A and will have home advantage at their Ennio Tardini stadium for the game against Serie B outfit Verona.

"We must put this defeat behind us,'' Parma coach Franco Colomba said of the 2-1 defeat at Novara.

"We put in a good performance and the result was disappointing. I'm confident that if we play with the same determination we can do well. Now we must turn our attention to the Coppa Italia and try to go as far as possible in this competition.''

Verona beat Reggina 1-0 on Saturday to climb to fifth in the second division.

Andrea Mandorlini's side have won five of their eight games away from home this season.

Catania, meanwhile, host Novara tomorrow knowing victory would see them lock horns with Italian champions AC Milan in the last 16 of the competition.

The Sicilians, who won 1-0 at Lecce at the weekend to go seventh in Serie A, have lost just once at home this season.

Novara's win over Parma on Sunday was just their second triumph of the campaign. They are 18th in Serie A.

Cesena coach Daniele Arrigoni is hoping his side can keep up their good run of form when they welcome Serie B strugglers Gubbio to the Dino Manuzzi stadium on Wednesday.

Cesena followed their 1-0 victory at Bologna - their first triumph of the campaign - with a 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday.

"Our recent performances give us hope,'' Said Arrigoni, whose side are 19th in the standings, two points behind safety. "Now we must keep working hard and focus on the game against Gubbio.''

Gubbio are second from bottom ion Serie B. They remain winless on their travels this season.
