Levante smash four past Sporting

Levante ended a run of three straight defeats with a storming 4-0 win over Sporting Gijon to stay clear in fourth place.

•  Saturday's round-up

Jose Barkero got the hosts off to a flyer with the opener inside 20 minutes, while a Valdo strike and an Arouna Kone brace wrapped up the points after the break.

Sevilla coach Marcelino Garcia Toral enjoyed a 1-0 win over his former club as Alvaro Negredo's first-half winner added to Real Zaragoza's woes.

Negredo, a lively presence until injury forced him off, won and converted a 23rd-minute penalty which ultimately separated the sides. Zaragoza had just two shots on target and remain second from bottom of the Primera Division, while Sevilla move above Malaga into fifth place.

A stunning injury-time goal by Inigo Martinez was enough to guide Real Sociedad to only their third win of the season as they defeated fellow strugglers Real Betis 3-2 in the Primera Division despite missing a first-half penalty.

Martinez struck with seconds to go from 35 yards to give Sociedad victory after they had squandered a two-goal lead late on.

The visitors were 2-0 up with less than 15 minutes to go thanks to goals by Imanol Agirretxe and Carlos Vela before the hosts drew level with a Rodriguez Jonathan Pereira double in the 81st and 86th minutes but then came Martinez's late intervention.

Osasuna secured their first away win of the season after goals either side of half-time from Roland Lamah and Javad Nekounam gave them a 2-1 victory at Espanyol.

After a poor opening Lamah raced on to an excellent through ball from Raul Garcia and finished calmly to give the visitors the lead two minutes before the break. The Belgian was also involved in Osasuna's second four minutes into the second period as he laid the ball back for Nekounam to strike the ball in off the post from 25 yards.

Yet, just as the visitors were looking comfortable, a mistake from goalkeeper Andres Fernandez allowed Alvaro Vasquez to pull one back for Espanyol. The hosts dominated possession for the last half hour but were unable to carve out a clear opportunity, and despite having Eneko Satrustegui sent-off with 15 minutes remaining, Osasuna held on to move into the top-half.

Real Mallorca celebrated their first win under coach Joaquin Caparros with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Racing Santander.

The hosts took the lead in first-half stoppage time as an excellent run and cross from Emilio Nsue down the left forced Marc Torrejon to slice into his own net at the near post. Victor Casadesus doubled their advantage with a good finish from Michael Pereira's cross.

However, Ariel Nahuelpan's 75th-minute goal ensured a nervy finish for the home fans and that tension was compounded when Pedro Bigas was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Manuel Arana but Mallorca clung on.

Promoted Granada served further notice their Primera Division stay may not be as short-lived as initially looked likely as they claimed a hugely impressive 1-0 away win over in-form Athletic Bilbao.

Inigo Lopez struck the only goal of the game as Granada, who suffered a miserable start in their first top flight campaign in 35 years, continued their recent improvement with a victory that lifts them out of the relegation zone.
