Dortmund win to go top of table

Borussia Dortmund put the pressure back on overnight leaders Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich by moving to the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-0 victory over Schalke in the 139th Ruhr derby.

Robert Lewandowski put the hosts in front in the 16th minute and Feipe Santana added the second after an hour.

The home side were in charge of the game from start to finish and fully deserved to climb to the summit for the first time since winning the title last May, and now it is up to Bayern to respond against Mainz on Sunday.

Eren Derdiyok's hat-trick was not enough to seal a win for Bayer Leverkusen as Hertha Berlin claimed a late 3-3 draw after they had given up a two-goal lead.

After Levan Kobiashvili missed a penalty, Pierre-Michel Lasogga opened the scoring in the seventh minute and an own goal by Omer Toprak in the 17th minute gave Hertha a 2-0 lead.

Derdiyok scored in the 24th, 64th and 79th minutes before Lasogga's second goal in the 82nd minute meant the spoils were shared.

Timothy Chandler's early goal was enough for Nurnberg to end their eight-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory at home to Kaiserslautern.

Chandler scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute to move Nurnberg onto 15 points, while Lautern have 13 points after failing to win for the fourth straight game.

Garra Dembele's last-minute goal earned Freiburg a 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim to continue their strong recent run.

Roberto Firmino gave Hoffenheim the lead after 24 minutes but the Mali international Dembele equalised in the 90th minute for Freiburg.

Freiburg have collected two draws and a win in their last three games to move to 12 points while Hoffenheim remained undefeated in their last five home matches to jump to 18 points.

Augsburg scored twice in the second half to pick up their second victory of the season as Wolfsburg's Bundesliga struggles continued.

Daniel Brinkmann hit first for the promoted side in the 65th minute and Edmond Kapllani ended all doubts with his goal four minutes into stoppage time.

Augsburg ended a three-game losing streak with the 2-0 win but remain in last place, five points behind their opponents who have collected just one point in their last seven away matches.#
