Bayern seeking City scalp

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has warned Manchester City that the Bundesliga club will not rest on their laurels when they travel to the Etihad Stadium on December 7.

• De Jong: There is still hope

Bayern's 3-1 win over Villarreal on Tuesday night secured top spot in Group A and with it their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

City, though, suffered a 2-1 loss in Naples, and Napoli now reside in second, so Roberto Mancini's side must triumph in their home meeting with Bayern and hope the Serie A side slip up versus Villarreal to reach the knockout phase.

It has been suggested that Bayern's already assured progression could work in City's favour, but Rummenigge insists his club will be seeking victory when they head to Manchester.

He said: "We are still going to try and win in Manchester. First of all, there are points for the five-year ranking at stake, and then there are €800,000 to the winner. We are not going to give anything away.

"After winning such a tough group, all you can do is pay a compliment to the team and the coach. The team did what we expected in that they won again."

Franck Ribery was Bayern's match-winner with two goals against Villarreal and, after missing out on the final in 2010 due to suspension, he is hoping to make up for that next May.

He said: "I hope that we can play in the final in Munich. That would be a dream. We just have to keep our calm and keep playing so well and not have any fear."
