Cahill focused until offers arrive

Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill admits that all the speculation surrounding his future is distracting, but he is more than willing to listen to any offers from big clubs.

Cahill's current contract at the Reebok Stadium expires next summer, meaning clubs can speak to him about signing on a free transfer at the start of January.

The England international, 25, has been strongly linked with Chelsea in recent days, with Andre Villas-Boas reported to be an admirer, while both Arsenal and Tottenham made enquiries about signing the former Aston Villa player at the end of the last transfer window - with Arsene Wenger recently saying a deal proved impossible because Bolton were "greedy".

Cahill acknowledges that his current contract status means he will always have to deal with rumours about his future, but he will put that out of his mind and consider offers only when they come in.

"There's no disguising the fact I am out of contract at the end of the season, so there will always be speculation," Cahill said. "For me, it's just a matter of keeping focused and playing football and trying to play at the top of my game.

"I will deal with it when and if it comes. Nobody has a crystal ball so no-one has a clue what will happen. I am contracted to Bolton and they have been fantastic - I will deal with whatever is in front of me if and when it arrives."

Joining the Blues would likely see Cahill partner John Terry in the centre of defence - and he believes he could slot in seamlessly at Stamford Bridge as he has already struck up a great partnership with the England captain while on international duty.

"These occasions (with England) are nice - they're fantastic games to be involved in," he said. "We have kept three clean sheets in four games together - it's really pleasing. He plays on the left (of central defence) and I play right - it makes your job a lot easier playing alongside someone like him."
