Granada await RFEF verdict

Granada are waiting to hear from the Spanish FA's (RFEF) disciplinary committee after their Primera Liga match against Mallorca had to be abandoned when a linesman was hit by an umbrella thrown from the crowd.

• Match abandoned after assistant ref hit

Linesman Aguilar Rodriguez was lining up for a Mallorca corner just over an hour into Sunday night's game when he was hit by the object, which drew blood from his cheek.

Referee Clos Gomez called an immediate halt to the action to allow the match officials to leave the pitch at Granada's Los Carmenes stadium and called off the contest not long after.

The incident occurred just after Granada had taken a 2-1 lead through a goal scored by Carlos Martins, who then dedicated it to his son who is currently ill in hospital having recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Martins left the field to celebrate the goal with a pre-made t-shirt, was then booked for a foul on Tomas Pina, and the trouble erupted shortly after with Rodriguez being hit in the face by an umbrella.

Granada coach Fabricio Gonzalez said "We are in a state of shock. Our fans have always helped us and this is a pity."

The disciplinary committee of the RFEF will meet on Monday to decide what action to take. The most recent incidents have seen the offending club either penalised with the loss of the game or the remaining minutes being played behind closed doors.

It is most likely that Mallorca will be handed a 3-0 victory and Granada will be fined.
