Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso has undergone successful surgery on Sunday to repair ligaments in his left knee, and will be sidelined for up to seven months.
Burdisso, 30, suffered the injury in Argentina's 2-1 win over Colombia in a World Cup qualifier last week.
"The surgery went very well and we are satisfied,'' said surgeon Giuliano Cerulli, who performed the operation on Burdisso.
"It was a complex injury considering that he had damage to his ligaments as well as his kneecap. The recovery period in these cases is between six and seven months.''
The Argentine will begin his rehabilitation next week in Rome. He has made 10 Serie A appearances for Roma this season.
