Inter climb into top half

Inter Milan got their season back on track with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari at the San Siro taking them above their opponents and into the top half of the table.

Thiago Motta put the Nerazzurri ahead in the 54th minute and it looked easy for Inter, who hit the woodwork twice in the first half, when Philippe Coutinho opened his account for the season six minutes later.

But Joaquin Larrivey made it interesting with a goal in the 89th minute which was not, however, enough to prevent Davide Ballardini from losing on his debut on the Cagliari bench. Lazio moved a point clear at the top of Serie A with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Napoli. With Udinese not playing until Sunday, the capital club took the opportunity to move a point clear of them, despite Napoli doing everything but score. Delio Rossi picked up his first point as coach of Fiorentina with a 0-0 draw against AC Milan on his debut on the Viola bench. In a game bereft of chances, the closest either side came to scoring was when Milan sub Alexandre Pato hit the post in the 77th minute. The visitors enjoyed the better of the first half with Fiorentina coming out of their shells in the second half, although they were unable to pose a threat to the Milan goal as they seemed happy enough to take a point off the defending Serie A champions. The Rossoneri were unable to find a way through and had to settle for a goalless draw - although Clarence Seedorf did find a way beyond the Fiorentina defence in the 19th minute, although his goal was wrongly ruled out for offside.
