Netherlands manager Bert van Marwijk has revealed that Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie will be allowed to leave the national side and return to his club after reaching an agreement with Arsene Wenger.
Van Persie has been in red-hot form so far this season, but has a history of picking up injuries while on international duty. Therefore, Arsenal boss Wenger spoke to Van Marwijk to ensure that his star striker would only play one match - the 0-0 draw with Switzerland on Friday.
"Arsene asked me if I could leave Robin out of both games," Van Marwijk is quoted as saying by The Sunday Mirror. "I had a good meeting with Wenger and we reached an agreement he would only play on Friday. After that we would send him back."
Van Persie will now miss Netherlands' friendly with Germany on Tuesday and will return to the Gunners in time to take on Norwich City in the Premier League at Carrow Road next weekend.
