Agbonlahor misses Spain friendly

Darrent Bent is set to occupy a lone striking role after Gabriel Agbonlahor was ruled out of England's friendly with Spain at Wembley on Saturday with a hamstring injury.

Agbonlahor was hoping to win his fourth cap but suffered an injury in training on Thursday. While the damage is not thought to be serious, it was decided to send Agbonlahor back to Aston Villa for further treatment, ending his chances of facing the world and European champions.

"Gabriel Agbonlahor has this morning returned to Aston Villa," the FA confirmed on Friday. "Having been assessed by the England medical staff, Agbonlahor is unable to train today at Wembley and has returned to his club."

ESPNsoccernets' England source commented: "The chances are that Darren Bent will be a lone striker in a 4-3-3 formation, but the England manager has not announced his team."

Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka has a fractured toe but he was able to take part in the training session on Friday, and Fabio Capello says he is available for Saturday's game. "He played normally today," he said. "I spoke with him. I asked him if he is ready to play. He told me yes."

Capello also said that Manchester United's Phil Jones will be tested in a new position after making his debut in defence against Montenegro.

"Phil Jones will play as a midfielder," he said. "I spoke with Sir Alex. He told me he can play there because he is a fantastic player. He is young. He can play centre-back, right-back and midfield. I think he will play well against Spain in midfield."
