Theo: England should copy Arsenal

Theo Walcott believes England could beat Spain if they implement similar tactics to his club Arsenal.

• Jones: JT a great leader
• Capello: We lack the quality

World and European champions Spain are expected to pose a fierce test to England when they travel to Wembley on Saturday.

Vicente del Bosque's side is renowned for its passing style, and England boss Fabio Capello has warned this week that his players will need to be on their toes.

Spain are considered to have a similar playing style to La Liga champions Barcelona, whom Arsenal have come up against in recent seasons.

And Walcott believes England could take a leaf out of the Gunners' book, his club having drawn 2-2 at home to Barca in 2010 before a year later defeating them 2-1 at Emirates Stadium - although in both ties they went on to lose the second leg and exit the Champions League.

Walcott said in the London Evening Standard: "I wouldn't say Barcelona struggle against us but I think they always find it harder against Arsenal than some other teams. We play a very similar way to them.

"Spain don't look to get it out wide and fire crosses in, they like to go through the centre and play interchanges. But I think England are very strong through the middle, so hopefully they'll find it tough.

"If they go wide we've got great full-backs and I think if I went through the entire list of individuals for England we've got great players across the board. So I'm hoping they're going to find it tough to get around us.

"That's what we did with Arsenal against Barca, we frustrated them, played them at their own game, dropped off when we needed to.

"It's also important when you lose the ball that you react and try to win it back in five seconds but the manager has reflected that need in training this week, he likes to see us pressing high and quick. That's what Spain will do as well, so we have to be ready for that."
