Corluka not thinking of revenge

Croatia defender Vedran Corluka claims that his side need no extra motivation to overcome Turkey in the Euro 2012 play-offs after they were beaten by the same opposition on penalties at Euro 2008.

The Croatian squad for Friday's game contains nine players who were a part of the side who went out in the quarter-finals - having taken a 119th-minute lead, only to be pegged back straight away before losing the ensuing shoot-out 3-1 - with Corluka one of those in the squad.

"It was a sad day for Croatia and I still can't believe that we lost that game," Corluka told UEFA. "It was one of the saddest days of my life, and for Croatia as well.

"We just need to forget about that, it's a new game and we should play like that never happened. If we let our feelings lead us through this game, it won't be good; we just need to keep a cool head. There is no extra motivation, only the motivation to go to Euro 2012."

Croatia will not use revenge as inspiration and Corluka claims that his side won't be fearful of the intimidating atmosphere in Turkey either.

"It will be tough, but when the game starts you forget about the fans, about everything, you just concentrate on the game and play the best you can," he said. "I don't think we will be scared of the atmosphere in Istanbul."
