Owen: I've got a few years left in me

Michael Owen insists he has no plans to retire in the near future, citing his Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs as a role model to follow.

• Kuszczak: I've become a slave at United
• Welbeck determined to prove worth

Owen, 31, is a shadow of the player who burst to prominence at the 1998 World Cup by scoring one of the most memorable goals of the tournament against Argentina, with injuries curbing his pace in recent years.

The forward has adapted his game, but he is still being plagued by injuries and is currently on the sidelines after suffering a thigh problem in the 2-0 Champions League victory over Otelul Galati last week.

Owen is mainly viewed as a squad player at Old Trafford and he only made one Premier League start in the whole of the 2010-11 season, but his bit-part role has not dimmed his appetite for the game.

"I am 31, so I'd like to think I've got a few years left in me," Owen told Sky Sports. "When you look at players like Giggsy who are playing into their mid to late 30s, that is great for us all and I'd like to think I've got a few years left in me.

"I love the game and how can't you love it when you are playing for such a side as Manchester United?"
