Knee injury rules Nasri out for France

France midfielder Samir Nasri will miss upcoming international friendlies against USA and Belgium because of a knee tendon problem suffered during Manchester City's Champions League win at Villarreal last week.

Nasri, 24, was an unused substitute for City's Premier League win against QPR on Saturday and after linking up with the national team, tests at France's HQ at Clairefontaine confirmed he would not be able to participate in Les Bleus' next two games. Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons has been called up to replace him.

A statement from the French Football Federation (FFF) read: "Samir Nasri reported for France duty at Clairefontaine (Yvelines) with a left patellar tendon injury.

"A clinical examination and additional tests confirmed the inflammation and, consequently, the inability of the player to be fully fit has meant he will not play in the two internationals against the United States and Belgium. Samir Nasri will now be allowed to return to his club.''

The former Arsenal and Marseille star becomes the third major injury doubt for manager Laurent Blanc, who also has concerns over the fitness of Yohan Cabaye and Florent Malouda as he begins his preparations for Euro 2012.

Newcastle midfielder Cabaye underwent a scan on Monday to determine the seriousness of a groin problem and Chelsea winger Malouda has a thigh injury.

France secured their qualification for next summer's European Championship in their final qualifying outing, booking their place thanks to a 1-1 home draw with group rivals Bosnia, with Nasri's late penalty earning Les Bleus a share of the spoils.
