Cech in doubt for Czech play-off

Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech could miss Friday's Euro 2012 play-off game against Montenegro after suffering a broken nose while playing for Chelsea.

Cech, who sustained the injury on Saturday's 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, is having a face-mask specially made, but his participation in the game is still uncertain.

"Apart from my physical condition, a lot depends on depends on how the mask, which will start to be produced on Tuesday, fits," said the keeper on his personal website. "I can test it for the first time on Wednesday. It will be important if I can see from every angle when wearing it.

"If everything is okay, I should be able to take part in Thursday's pre-match training session with the team. I do not want to draw any hasty conclusions at the moment; the [final] decision should come after I have flown to Prague.''

Czech manager Michal Bílek will turn to Jaroslav Drobny of German team Hamburg if his first-choice keeper is not fit, but took time to underline how important Cech is to his side.

"He [Cech] will have a special mask from Italy, and how he feels will be crucial for my decision about who starts in goal,'' he told UEFA. ''I hope he will be ready; his presence on the pitch is very important for us because he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.''
