Zieler to be given German gloves

Germany coach Joachim Low has promised to give Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler his national team debut in Friday night's friendly international against the Ukraine in Kiev.

Regular number one Manuel Neuer will not make the trip to the Ukraine, but will play in Germany's next friendly international against Holland in Hamburg next Tuesday.

This leaves just Werder Bremen's Tim Wiese and Zieler available for Friday night and Low has confirmed that the Hannover player will definitely play a part whether it be the full 90 minutes or just a half.

"That is the current stand of our plans," he said on the German Football Association's website.

"All other decisions will be made over the course of the next few days based on the impressions I get in training."

Zieler spent his youth career at Manchester United and even a spell at Northampton Town before heading back to Germany.

Low has also revealed that Borussia Dortmund's Mario Gotze and Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil will play together against Ukraine as he experiments with a new 4-4-2 formation with the technically-gifted pair playing at the heart of his midfield.

That will mean Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez will also take to the field together, which has been a rare occurrence in Low's more frequently used 4-2-3-1 formation.

Meanwhile, Marco Reus will not be part of Low's squad when they meet in Hamburg to begin preparations for the two upcoming friendly matches.

The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has a stomach infection and will undergo further tests at his club tomorrow to determine if and when he will be able to report for duty.

Reus made his international debut last month in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Turkey.
