Coyle: My job is safe

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has insisted he retains the full support of the club despite their poor start to the season.

Bolton have lost 19 of 28 Premier League games in 2011, eight of which have already come this season, and are in 19th place in the Premier League.

"We've a fantastic club, an unbelievable owner," Coyle said. "The chairman [Phil Garside] and I have a fantastic relationship. Our supporters have been great too. But I totally understand, given what we've done, the expectation is we have to be better than where we are just now.

"We have to improve. To do that we need the fans onside. I won't sit here and make excuses for myself or the group. We know we have to do better.

"When you raise expectations you have to try and match up. We've not done that but we can do very quickly. Football can change within one game. That's why I love it."

And Coyle, who manages Bolton against Stoke City - the team against which their bad run of form began - on Sunday, admits his side need to finally move on: "It was a poor day. It wasn't nice. But it was last season and we have to address what is happening this season. Our focus has to be on Sunday, nothing else.

"These players don't need it as a motivational tool. We've the chance to move out of the bottom three. If that can't motivate you, then something is sadly wrong."

Coyle is widely thought of as a promising managerial talent and will be keen to prove that by leading Bolton away from the relegation zone.
