Inter's Ranieri targets upturn

Claudio Ranieri has denied his Inter Milan side give more in the Champions League than they do in Serie A.

Inter head into Sunday's game at Genoa on the back of a morale-boosting European win, beating Lille 2-1 for their third straight triumph in Group B.

Having endured a wretched spell in Italy to fall 11 points adrift of league leaders Juventus, Ranieri now wants his side to show their European form on the domestic front.

''All the victories are important considering we have had very few this season,'' Inter coach Claudio Ranieri said. ''It's not true that we give more in Europe than we do in the domestic front.

''Things just seem to go our way in the Champions League and I'm sure that soon that will be the case in the league. Whether the win over Lille marks a turning point in our campaign depends only on us.''

Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Juventus was Inter's fifth loss in nine league games and left Ranieri's side one place above the relegation zone heading into Sunday's game.

Juventus take on Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo unbeaten in Serie A this season. Napoli, meanwhile, lost 2-1 at Catania before falling 3-2 at Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek.

AC Milan were rocked this week by the news that Antonio Cassano has a heart problem. Cassano will undergo surgery after being admitted to Milan's Policlinico hospital on Saturday night, just hours after his team's 3-2 win at Roma, having developed problems with his vision, speech and movement. Without the striker, Milan host Catania on Sunday.

Second-placed Udinese have won all of their games at the Stadio Friuli this season and that's where they will take on Siena. Should Udinese, who lie one point behind Juve, fail to win on Sunday, Lazio could leapfrog them into second provided the Romans beat Parma in the Eternal City. Lazio are level on 18 points with Udinese after nine games played.

Palermo seek home comfort when they take on Bologna on Saturday. The Sicilians have failed to win on the road but have managed to remain in the top half of the standings thanks to their perfect record at La Favorita this season.

Roma conceded their third defeat in four games in last weekend's 3-2 loss at home to Milan and travel to Novara on Saturday looking to halt their slide down the table.

Cesena fans will be hoping the arrival of Daniele Arrigoni will spark their team into life. Arrigoni replaced coach Marco Giampaolo, who was sacked after Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Parma. Cesena lie at the foot of the standings and hope to clinch their first win of the campaign at home to Lecce on Sunday.

Sunday's 4-1 loss at Siena was Chievo's third consecutive defeat and left coach Domenico Di Carlo under pressure heading into this weekend's game against Fiorentina.

Cagliari will look to end their four-match winless run when they travel to Bergamo to face Atalanta on Sunday.
