Tottenham revealed on Tuesday that there manager would miss the club's trip to Rubin Kazan on Thursday on account of a health issue. It was later revealed that he would require heart surgery, which took place on Wednesday.

The procedure has passed off without a hitch and Redknapp is described as being in good spirits.

"The club can report that earlier today Harry successfully had two stents inserted to unblock coronary arteries," read a statement on the club's official website. "He is in excellent spirits and due to be discharged from hospital in the next 48 hours.

"Harry has asked us to pass on his thanks to all the many, many fans who have sent goodwill messages."

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: "We are delighted the operation went so smoothly and successfully. Knowing Harry he will want to rush back, but it's important that he only does so when he has recovered properly."

Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has revealed the manager kept the news from his players who are keen to keep up their winning run.

"We were totally surprised," Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News. "We heard it in the news, he never told us, and we hope he gets better and we will keep on winning for him."
