McCarthy eyeing 'huge' game

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy has stressed the importance of claiming a positive result against Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

Wigan blog: Keeping the faith

Wolves are currently placed two points above the Premier League relegation zone off the back of their 3-1 defeat to table-toppers Manchester City.

Wigan, meanwhile, are at the foot of the standings, and McCarthy accepts this weekend's meeting between the two struggling sides is a "huge" match.

"Man City was the most important one before Saturday, now it's Wigan because it's the next game," McCarthy said in the Daily Mirror. "But everybody in the world that has any sort of football knowledge will know that Wolves v Wigan is a huge game.

"All those games against the teams down the bottom of the table are going to be hugely important this season. We lost a lot of those last year and won the big games. Sunday's one we need to catch up on."
