Gerrard ankle placed in cast

Liverpool have confirmed Steven Gerrard will be sidelined for at least a fortnight after undergoing treatment on his infected right ankle.

• Liverpool wait on Gerrard results

Gerrard, 31, has made five appearances for Liverpool this season after recovering from a groin problem that required surgery at the end of last campaign.

But the midfielder was forced to miss Saturday's 2-0 Premier League win at West Brom with an ankle problem, which has since been treated and placed in a protective plaster cast.

Liverpool have outlined that Gerrard will miss the club's forthcoming match versus Swansea and also England's meetings with Spain and Sweden, although it is unknown if he will be available for the Reds' meeting with Chelsea on November 20.

A statement on Liverpool's official website read: "Steven Gerrard has now undergone treatment to clear out all infection from his right ankle, which has been placed in a protective plaster cast.

"The player will not be available for this weekend's game against Swansea City or for the upcoming England friendlies against Spain and Sweden. Steven will now continue his rehabilitation programme under the guidance of the club's medical staff."
