Rampant Roar embarrass Adelaide 7-1

Albanian international Besart Berisha had a night to remember at Suncorp Stadium as Brisbane embarrassed Adelaide United 7-1 to take their unbeaten A-League streak to 32 games.

Berisha, a late off-season signing by Roar coach Ange Postecoglou, scored four goals before being substituted in the 69th minute of Brisbane's spectacular attacking exhibition.

Berisha scored a first-half hat-trick inside six minutes before notching a fourth in the second half to equal Kiwi striker Shane Smeltz's A-League regular-season goal haul for a single game.

Smeltz notched four when playing for Gold Coast United against North Queensland in August, 2009.

Archie Thompson holds the individual one-match record of five goals scored for Melbourne Victory in the 6-0 2006-07 grand final win, also against Adelaide.

Berisha's remarkable first-half display came during a withering blitz on Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic's goal as two penalties to Brazilian Henrique ensured the hosts took a 5-1 halftime lead.

That burst came after Adelaide had actually taken the lead through former Roar player Dario Vidosic inside the opening five minutes.

Vidosic's strike against the team where his father Rado is Postecoglou's assistant was the first goal Roar 'keeper Michael Theoklitos had conceded this season.

It could have been two shortly after when Vidosic was put clear after 15 minutes but Roar defender Matt Smith arrived in time to defuse the situation.

But Adelaide's attacking intent only seemed to anger the defending A-League premiers, who blew their opponents away in a devastating 16-minute spell.

Henrique levelled from the spot after Mitch Nichols was brought down by United's Jonathan McKain.

From their Berisha took centre stage, notching in the 24th, 27th and 29th minutes to completely turn the game on its head.

Henrique then completed the half when he again beat Eugene Galekovic in the Reds' goal when Cassio brought down the Brazilian in the box.

Berisha completed his day out with another in the second half before Canadian Issey Nakajima-Farran completed the rout with a simple tap-in.

The 7-1 margin is just one goal shy of Adelaide's A-League record win of 8-1 against North Queensland last season.

"I fell in love with all the Brisbane team tonight," said Berisha, who had not scored four goals in his professional career before.

"Tonight was a complete performance," Postecoglou said after the win.

"I'm full of admiration for them, they never have an off day on game day.

"There is more in us, we're getting better."

Adelaide coach Rini Coolen said his team had defended poorly and given Berisha far too much room to operate.

"It was very poor defence. If you give a team like Brisbane that many chances they are going to hurt you," he said.

Coolen said he made some changes to his midfield after being down 5-1 at halftime to limit the damage.

"The way they played in the first half they could have scored another five or six goals and it could have been a disaster," he said.
