Levante continue run with late win

Levante stayed top of the Spanish league as they beat Real Sociedad 3-2 with a stunning late winner from substitute Ruben Suarez.

Daniel Estrada had given the visitors the lead as early as the fourth minute and Sociedad could have been further ahead by half-time but Alberto De La Bella and Inigo Martinez struck the bar.

However, Levante roared back at the start of the second and scored twice in five minutes either side of the hour mark through Nano and Valdo.

Martinez brought Sociedad back level with a fine finish from the edge of the box with three minutes remaining, before Ruben's fierce strike from 30 yards with virtually the last kick of the game handed Levante the three points.

Real Madrid are a point behind the leaders thanks to a 3-0 victory over Villarreal.

Karim Benzema set the ball rolling after just five minutes with Kaka adding a second six minutes later. Angel Di Maria then rounded off the scoring after 31 minutes to life Madrid above bitter rivals Barcelona in the standings.

A late goal from Jordi Alba earned Valencia a narrow 1-0 win at Real Zaragoza which took them into the top four.

The 22-year-old, who is reportedly a target of Barcelona and Manchester United, found the target eight minutes from time to hand Unai Emery's men their fifth league win of the campaign.

Sporting Gijon enjoyed only their second win of the season, a 2-1 victory at Real Mallorca which lifted them off the foot of the standings.

The hosts went in front through a 17th-minute strike from Gonzalo Castro, but substitute Mate Bilic replied five minutes into the second half. And own goal from Joao Victor after 65 minutes then completed the comeback for Sporting, who climb out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Getafe and Osasuna played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Ibrahima put Osasuna ahead as early as the eighth minute as a slip from Getafe goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya saw the striker's flicked header fall into an empty net. Getafe dominated the rest of the half but were profligate in front of goal and had to wait until the 62nd minute to get on level terms as substitute Guiza volleyed home from just outside the box.

Ibrahima restored Osasuna's lead with a smart diving header from Raul Garcia's cross four minutes later but Guiza guaranteed a point for the hosts with a similar finish from Miguel Torres' cross 14 minutes from time.

Rayo Vallecano earned their third win of the season as new-look Malaga were beaten 2-0 after being reduced to 10 men at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.

Pedro's seventh minute goal put Rayo in control and Malaga's chances of getting back into the game were dealt a blow when Eliseu was sent off 10 minutes before half-time for a professional foul. Raul Tamudo then sealed the win for the promoted side as Rayo claimed their second victory in a row and moved into eighth in the overall standings.
