FC Sion set sights on Del Piero

FC Sion president Christian Constantin has revealed that he is keen to bring Alessandro Del Piero to the club once his contract at Juventus expires this summer.

• Juve: Del Piero's last season

Del Piero, 37, has been in Turin since 1993 when he joined from Serie B side Padova. However, Juve have already made it clear that this will be the striker's last year in Turin and he is now interesting other clubs, including the Swiss team.

"Del Piero is a player who I really like," Constantin told TMW. "I was already updated on his situation last year. Now, if Juventus no longer want him, I'm really interested. I'd love to bring him to Sion, I'll speak to the player and a solution is possible.

"I'll do everything possible to sign him. I prefer to not comment on the economical aspect of such a deal though, I'd prefer to just concentrate on the player."

Del Piero, a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, is likely to have many suitors, although the Swiss club have courted controversy of late after a one-year transfer ban was imposed by FIFA after they signed goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary while he was still under contract at Al Ahly.

That ban has now expired, but FC Sion have made more bad headlines after they were thrown out of the Europa League - after fielding six players who were signed during the ban: Stefan Glarner, Pascal Feindouno, Jose Goncalves, Gabri, Billy Ketkeophomphone and Mario Mutsch - allowing Celtic into the group stages.

However, FC Sion are currently undertaking an appeal through the courts which could see them reinstated, possibly after having to win a play-off game.
