Brighton snap up Jara from Baggies

Brighton have signed West Brom defender Gonzalo Jara on loan until January.

Jara, 26, has fallen out of favour at the Hawthorns after being a regular for the Baggies last season, making just one appearance as a substitue against Manchester United on the opening day.

The Chile international has swapped the Midlands for the south coast in a bid to play regular first-team football with the Championship side.

Brighton boss Gus Poyet swooped for Jara as cover for Adam El-Abd and Tommy Elphick, who are both out with long-term foot and Achilles injuries respectively.

"Gonzalo has a great pedigree having played for Chile's top team, before helping West Brom to promotion to the Premiership," Poyet told the club's official website.

"He also has Premiership experience having been a first choice last season, and he will bring quality and add experience of this level and higher, and help us recapture our early season form.

"He also brings versatility: he can play anywhere across the back four or as a defensive midfielder."
