Serbia coach resigns
Serbia coach Vladimir Petrovic has resigned in the wake of his team's failure to qualify for next summer's Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine.
Serbia's 1-0 defeat to Slovenia on Tuesday saw them pipped to the runners-up spot in Group C by Estonia, with Italy going through as group winners. Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic missed a penalty for Serbia, who needed all three points to make the play-offs.
Petrovic announced his decision to resign after talks with the Serbian Soccer Federation, bringing to an end a 12-month reign that began when he took over from Radomir Antic last September.
''As of today Vladimir Petrovic is not the coach of the national team of Serbia,'' read a statement on the Serbian FA's official website.
Petrovic said: ''I had the honour and pleasure to have led the Serbia national team. Unfortunately for all of us, we have not qualified for the European Championships.''
