Gonalons signs new Lyon deal

Maxime Gonalons has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension at Lyon.

Gonalons, 22, has excelled for the French side so far this season, filling the gap left by Jeremy Toulalan who joined Spanish side Malaga.

The highly-rated midfielder's new deal means he'll remain at the Stade Gerland until 2016. He follows Michel Bastos and Hugo Lloris in signing new deals at the club this season.

"Olympique Lyonnais are delighted to announce the extension of Maime Gonalons' contract until June 30, 2016," read a statement on the club's official website.

Real Madrid had been credited with an interest in Gonalons, who has made 47 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon, but he says he never had any intention of moving clubs.

"This contract makes me very proud," he told L'Equipe. "I have been educated here and I have been at the club for 11 years. That shows that the club trusts me and values me."
