Kompany eyes shock win

Vincent Kompany has backed Belgium to claim a "special'' result in Germany and seal a Euro 2012 play-off place.

• The race to Euro 2012: Who can qualify

Belgium go into the game one point clear of Turkey and need to match their result to guarantee second place in Group A.

But that is a far from straightforward task given they finish away to the group winners, who boast a 100% record in qualifying, while Turkey should have little problem beating Azerbaijan in Istanbul.

Belgium put themselves in position to make the play-offs by beating Kazakhstan 4-1 on Friday night as Germany did them a favour by winning in Turkey, and Kompany claims his side are good enough to finish the job.

"I've always felt that we can achieve a good result in Germany,'' the Manchester City defender said in De Standaard. "We will never be favourites against Germany, but maybe we are better in the role of underdog.

"We will go into the game in relaxed mood, because our mission is very clear. We must not think too much of what is happening between Turkey and Azerbaijan and should concentrate entirely on our own game.

"I feel that something special can happen in Germany.''

With Turkey surely set for three points against Azerbaijan, Belgium coach Georges Leekens knows his side will have to win against a Germany side which has scored 31 goals in their nine qualifiers so far and conceded just six.

"We must balance between attack and discipline,'' he added. "We must also watch out for their quick counter-attack, because that is really deadly.''

One player who could be key for Belgium is highly-rated Lille winger Eden Hazard, who is struggling with an ankle complaint. Leekens said: "I estimate his chances of playing at 65%.''

The hosts also have fitness doubts surrounding Jerome Boateng, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mesut Ozil. Real Madrid star Ozil missed the game against Turkey with an Achilles tendon injury, but could return.

"He looks much much better than before the game against Turkey. We now have to see how he copes with it,'' assistant coach Hansi Flick said in Bild.

Coach Joachim Low confirmed in a press conference Ozil would start should he come through training this evening without any problems.

Belgium defender Timmy Simons admits if Belgium are to qualify they will have to do it the hard way.

"The Germans never give away gifts and certainly not at home. Against Turkey, they were not dominant, but they won 3-1,'' said Simmons, who plays in the Bundesliga with Nurnberg, in De Standaard.

"We hope that for one day they will be slightly less focused. But we go to Dusseldorf with great confidence. We'll take many supporters along so that's a boost for us.

"In the first game in Brussels we played a strong match. But we lost thanks to one little mistake and you get punished mercilessly at that level.'
